Zuma: investors don't look at one man
Investors look to stability and growth in an economy and not just to one individual. So said Randy Walerius, Dow Jones editor of Enterprise Reporting for Europe, Middle East and Africa, at the meeting of the International Media Forum held in Johannesburg yesterday, Wednesday 20 September 2006.
He was commenting in an interview on the scrapping of the fraud case against ANC Deputy-President Jacob Zuma from the court roll in the Pietermaritzburg High Court earlier yesterday.
The Forum for the first time brought together senior editors from the world's most important media with South African business, government and communication professionals.
Walerius pointed out that Italy and France both have leaders who are suspected of being involved in fraudulent activity. Their problem, though, is that they are unable to reform and grow their economies.
But South Africa has a growing and stable economy and investors will be less upset by the Zuma verdict than might generally be thought, said Walerius.
