Freedom exhibition celebrates Mexico
South African designer Sindiso Nyoni will be presenting an international exhibition, Voices in Freedom, which celebrates the Bicentennial of Mexican Independence and the Centennial of the Mexican Revolution, at the FADA Gallery University of Johannesburg, 14 July - 3 August 2011. The initiative invited 110 designers from 35 countries to contribute to the International Poster Biennial of Mexico by designing posters expressing "freedom".

The collection, inaugurated in Mexico in September 2010, has been exhibited in China, Colombia, Italy, Japan, Russia and Uruguay, and now it is Africa's turn.
In 2008, Nyoni completed his UJ BTech Degree in Graphic Design and is currently an art director at Black River FC. He is an award winning designer/illustrator, who combines traditional and digital media to create a uniquely African street style.
Nyoni says, "Being invited to participate and form part of the collection of activist orientated posters was a humbling sign of recognition for me. I'm honoured to share wall space with the likes of Chaz Maviyane-Davies of Zimbabwe, Israel's Yossi Lemel as well as French artist Alain Le Quernec, all of whom have played pivotal roles of inspiration in my activist art journey."
Exhibition visitors will view the works of top designers including Rafal Olbinski of Poland, Istvan Orosz of Hungary, Takashi Akiyama of Japan, Gérmán Montalvo and Eduardo Téllez of Mexico, Carlos Palleiro of Uruguay, Gitte Kath of Denmark, Luba Lukova from the US and Karolina Podoska.
FADA and the Embassy of Mexico will host a private function on the evening of July 19th 2011 at the FADA Gallery. The exhibition will be open to the public on weekdays from 09:00 - 16:00 from 14 July to 3 August 2011. The Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture (FADA) Gallery is situated on the University of Johannesburg Bunting Road Campus.
