Open to creative minds across the country, Art Vespa has attracted increasing numbers of inspired entries, including some from beyond South African borders. The prize is an ultra-stylish Vespa LX150, wrapped in the winner's original design.
“Member's of the creative community that participated this year really engaged with the brief, proposing smart, simple designs that can be seen from a distance and that complement the contours of the Vespa,” says Andy Reid, MD of Vespa South Africa. “We received some of our best designs, since the first Art Vespa competition four years ago.”
The judging team from Piaggio in Italy were reportedly blown away by the quality of design submissions for the 2009 competition.
The brief called for simple, clever and bold ideas that complimented the iconic Vespa shape. It requested that designers make use of the same principles of package design or billboard layout as they work best when branding or wrapping a Vespa with a logo. What's more, a Vespa is similar to a moving billboard, which is an important consideration during the concept and design of an Art Vespa or company-branded Vespa.
