Cape Town opens it heart to art

The inaugural Art with Heart charity auction was held by Playtpus Productions in conjunction with the Cape Film Commission late last week. The initiative raised R23 000 for the two charities involved, Heart of Healing and Hollywood Hearts.
Cape Town opens it heart to art

Art with Heart was the brainchild of Stanley Edwards, director of Platypus Productions, who, having a background in photography, had the idea to gather “frustrated” artists working in the advertising, marketing, production and media industries to join him in rediscovering their creative talents while staging an auction to benefit charity.

A call to action was sent out and Platypus Productions received a great response with artists from all over the country wishing to take part. The artwork that was produced and donated was displayed at The Bay Hotel for three days prior to the auction on Friday, 9 November 2007

Said Edwards, “We were amazed at the response and the diversity of the work we received, from paintings to prints and even lampshades. We really hope to grow this event next year to make it even bigger and better.”

The auction, which took place during the Cape Town Film Awards was reportedly both exciting and tense in parts. It was run by Richard Gore of the Alliance Group, who managed to ensure the crowd willing to open up their pockets for a good cause.
