Tsotsi campaign scoops Cannes Lion

South Africa's Oscar-award-winning film, Tsotsi has brought in another prestigious award for our country, this time it comes in the form of a Cannes Lion for TBWA\Hunt\Lascaris, in the Lion Direct category, at the world's largest advertising awards ceremony held in the South of France.

The campaign broke in South Africa a few weeks ago in response to the huge outcry from the public and in particular the film sector, regarding the fact that their industry was being robbed by the massive piracy issue in this country.

The creative team behind this award winning campaign is Damon Stapleton: creative director; Camilla Herberstein: creative director; Jason Kempen: copywriter; Jonathan Smith: copywriter; and Darren Borrino: art director, who put the campaign together as part of an anti-piracy initiative.

"We are obviously thrilled with this award," stated David Wingfield, MD, TBWA\Hunt\Lascaris after the ceremony last night, "in particular this award is another demonstration of our disruptive philosophy and integrated approach to campaigns, and congratulations must go to the whole team."

The Tsotsi campaign has received much coverage here in South Africa thanks to the great idea, the fact that the issues it was tackling were relevant, and the media placement and public relations leveraging by sister agency, Magna Carta.

"I would like to congratulate the team at TBWA\Hunt\Lascaris for this fantastic accolade," added Mike Bosman: CEO TBWA\South Africa.
