On Thursday, 20 September 2007, the MTN Sciencentre in Cape Town will be attempting to set a new Guinness World Record for the world's largest functioning cellphone with its fully operational, scaled-up Sony/Ericsson W810i, measuring 2.5 x 1.125 x 0.44m. Acting head of the Sciencentre Julie Cleverdon, says; “Since its unveiling in October 2006, the giant cellphone has provided users with the opportunity to use a mobile phone in an environment where they can actively learn how it works. Based on the measurements of the giant cellphone, we are confident that we can break the existing record that was first established by the Maxi Handy at the Rotmain Centre, Bayreuth, Germany in 2006.”
