What's up with retail ads in general?

Sure, you get some good ads - retail - but why are most so crap, that they totally put you off a product.

Last night, during my 7de Laan fix/ER - not sure, I noticed how crap ads really can be. McCarthy call a car....with a woman standing in front of het cat looking into the camera, while her kids are running around....what's the point?? What is it telling the consumer about themselves. Why not sell your service and features about your business? I really think that TV Stations, Radio Stations and all media for that matter should refuse crap advertising like this.

There was also the following:
1 Advertising break....2 Mayonaise ads. 1 For Nola (good ad) and 1 for Cross & Blackwell. - Do TV stations tell opposition when advertising will take place to gain more.....If I was the Nola Client, I would have refused to pay. Nola was slotted with 2 Cross & Blackwell ads.

2. Another ad break. 3 Drinks ads, straight after each other. The first was so bad, I can't recall the name (some boy with a cricket bad, and shallow story), the second was better - but I can also not recall (mother talking about knowing her children - when they need a push and when they need a hugg) and the 3rd one was Winnie the Pooh.

1. Why are ads so crappy, that we can't recall the products. What's the purpose of this advertising?

2. Why if we do remember the product - purely because it's such an irritating ad, was the ad so bad that it pushed us away from the product. (look at recent Dros ads)

3. Why does expensive media like tv, not help your product stand out...instead they flight 2 or 3 same product ads in a slot.

Some agencies get away with murder.

If Shoprite or Pick'nPay had to advertise on the same page or spread in a paper, they will both refuse to pay. Why don't these clients take that same attitude towards tv companies?
