'In My Country' to be released by Ster Kinekor

Ster-Kinekor Films has inked a distribution deal with Film Afrika Productions to release "In My Country", based on the book Country of My Skull by Antjie Krog, in South Africa on a date to be confirmed. The film is set against the backdrop of South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) hearings.

It brings together two journalists who meet while covering the proceedings of the commission headed by Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Washington post journalist, Langston Whitfield (Samuel L. Jackson) meets Anna Malan (Juliette Binoche), an Afrikaans poet covering the hearings for South African state media.

His horror at the revelations at the truth commission lead to an instant animosity between himself and Anna, but as he becomes increasingly drawn into her world and her passion for the country of her birth, he softens his stance and, against his will and principles, falls in love with the white South African.

The film stars one of the hardest working actors in Hollywood, Samuel L. Jackson (SWAT), Academy Award winner, Juliette Binoche (Chocolat), Brendan Gleeson (Troy), and string of local talent which includes Generations heartthrob, Menzi Ngubane and Nick Boraine from Promised Land.

In My Country won the Human Rights prize at the 54 Berlin International Film Festival Special in February 2004 and later in May 2004, it premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in France. The film will be released at selected Cinema Nouveau outlets and few commercial sites countrywide.
