Africa in Motion's annual Short Film Competition has been running for eight years, with more than 120 entries submitted this year. The Documentary Film Competition was launched for the first time for the upcoming 2015 festival. Filmmakers of African nationality were invited to submit short films of no longer than 30 minutes and documentaries of 30 minutes or more, completed after 2013. Both competitions aim at supporting young and emerging filmmakers from Africa.
For each competition, the winner will be selected by a jury of high profile international film practitioners and announced after all the films have been screened in Edinburgh and Glasgow. The winner will receive a cash prize of £500 (sponsored by Aduna and the Scottish Documentary Institute). An Audience Choice Award will also be attributed for each competition and will be announced at the end of the festival.
The short films will be screened on Monday 26 October in Edinburgh (at the Filmhouse) and on Wednesday 28 October in Glasgow (at the Andrew Stewart Cinema).
The documentaries will be screened on Tuesday 27 and Thursday 29 October in Edinburgh (at the Edinburgh College of Art) and on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October in Glasgow (at the CCA).
