Not only are these interactive online papers available for free, but they were all created by crowdsourcing the skills of university students. This was facilitated through Obami's "content hack", which ran over three weeks and had students convert 168 past papers across 32 subjects from the last three years.
"Crowdsourcing" is a term used to describe how companies outsource skills and services from a community. In this case, Obami used the online community to source students from different universities across South Africa, from varying fields of study, to convert NSC papers into online assignments.
This massive investment by Obami in making digitised past papers available to the public shows how serious it is about revolutionising the face of education. This achievement, coupled with its "learner centric" platform, could change how learners engage with their education.
With Obami's mobile functionality, many of the 600,000 matriculants expected to write the NSC later this month will be able to access the assignments.
These assignments are as like the real experience as possible, using technology to facilitate the learning process. Teachers can set the paper to their classes, mark the assignment and export responses and results. This allows them to identify and focus on sections that learners are struggling with. Alternatively, learners can undertake the assignments independently by completing each answer and, upon submission, compare the model answer to their own.
In August they converted DBE Annual National Assessments into digitised Obami assignments.
