SACA announces new board

The South African Chefs' Association (SACA) has announced its new board. As of 1 August 2009, Stephen Billingham will take the reigns as president of the 35-year-old association; Billingham will take over from Martin Kobald, who is stepping down after six years of service.

New to the board are Trevor Boyd, Allister Esau and Kabelo Segone. The remaining seven seats are filled by Andrew Atkinson, Craig Elliot, Antonette Kennedy, James Khoza, Garth Shnier, Jeff Schueremans and Arnold Tanzer; all of whom served previously on the Board.

Former president Martin Kobald commented that the appointment of Stephen Billingham as SACA president will add further depth to the range of complementary skills amongst the new board of directors.

Billingham currently holds the position of managing member of the Hospitality Trainers Associates (HTA). Established in 1996, HTA was formed to assist South Africa's fastest growing industry (hospitality, travel and tourism) with the skilling and development of home-grown chefs. Billingham is also the director of Capital Hotel School and Training Academy, which educates school leavers in the field of hospitality management; as well as being the director of the HTA School of Culinary Art.

“I look forward to a productive and successful tenure; as together with the SACA board, we continue to focus on the improvement of standards within the South African hospitality industry through a purposeful process of empowerment and transformation,” he says.
