Devil's Peak Lager launched

Devil's Peak Brewing Company has launched a craft lager: a flavoursome, high-quality version of the age-old traditional German beer. Available on tap in leading venues around the country, Devil's Peak Lager makes a refreshing alternative to the sometimes heavy, complex ales typically associated with craft beer brewers both locally and abroad.

Light in body, low in bitterness, pale yellow in colour and brilliantly clear, with a medium to high carbonation, Devil's Peak Lager has a clean, crisp malt nose, enhanced by the mild, spicy and slightly floral aroma often associated with the famous Hallertauer Mittelfrüh hops used in Bavarian-style lager beers.

"We're a lager-loving nation and now, through craft, we can experience our favourite beverage with more sophistication," said Steven Jowell, MD of Devil's Peak Brewing Company. "Devil's Peak Lager highlights the tradition of beer crafted with care, to be distinctive and full of flavour. In simple terms, it's beer as it should be."

Launched in April 2012, Devil's Peak Brewing Company has experienced phenomenal growth, thanks largely to growing consumer demand for greater variety of beer in terms of taste and style. The company began as a three-man start-up in Somerset West, moving a while later to larger premises in the historic Cape Town suburb of Salt River, with a beautifully renovated warehouse brewery and brass-hued brew-pub facility, offering a brewing capacity in excess of 40,000 litres.

A great deal more personality

"South Africans now want greater variety from their first-choice drink, and craft brewers are perfectly positioned to adapt that age-old recipe to offer something deliciously refreshing and with a great deal more personality," said JC Steyn, Head Brewer of the company.

Jowell concurred: "Beer, like fine wine, can challenge a sophisticated palate, be paired beautifully with food, and still be the refreshing, delicious drink that we so love. It appeals to both men and women, to both the connoisseur and the quaffer - in fact, to anyone who's after something that's authentic and real."

Devil's Peak Lager has a unique character resulting from high-quality imported ingredients (including 100% malt and a German hops variety) cold-fermented and lagered (stored) for up to three weeks at 0 °C.

Devil's Peak Lager will be available in 340ml bottles from mid-August through leading retail outlets nationally.
