IWSC honours South African wine
At the recent International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC), KWV won multiple awards - a Gold Outstanding (for Abraham Perold Tributum 2010), Gold for The Mentors Noble Late Harvest 2012 and The Mentors Sauvignon blanc/Semillon 2013 and 19 other medals, the most for any South African producer.
There were seven Gold Outstanding medals, of which Nederburg took three, one for its Winemaster's Reserve Noble Late Harvest 2012, as well as for two wines sold exclusively on the Nederburg Auction: the 2011 Private Bin Edelkeur and 2010 Private Bin Eminence. Nederburg also came home with two of the 29 Gold awards, for its 2009 vintages of the Edelkeur and Eminence. JC Le Roux, too, picked up a Gold for its Scintilla 2008.
The IWSC was founded in 1969 and is the premier competition of its kind in the world. All entries are tasted blind in groups divided by variety, region and vintage as necessary.
"South Africa has done extremely well in this year's Beautiful South results. The IWSC hosted showcases in South Africa and South America earlier this year and the level of wines highlighted was very high. Looking at the results as a whole, it was interesting to see that 2013 vintages were the strongest in this year's competition," commented IWSC GM, Ewan Lacy.
