On Site with Cashbuild

The four couples selected for the new Cashbuild On Site reality TV Show on SABC 2 arrived at Greenstone Hill in Modderfontein this week for the ultimate building challenge: to build a house from scratch within 13 weeks, without giving up their day jobs.

On Site, the weekly show which commences on SABC 2 on Thursday 11 August at 6pm, will be co-hosted by Fezile Mpela and Eloise Cupido, while Cashbuild's building coordinator Michael Beukes will provide advice and guidance for both contestants and viewers.

The couples - Claudine (31) and Gerrit Pretorius (30); Itumeleng Modise (32) and Uzi Gugushe (28); Phemelo Molefe (25) and Tshepo Mofokeng (26); and Johann Strauss (31) and Melissa Lintnaar-Strauss (31) - arrived with everything from heaters and clothing to microwave ovens and bedding to make their 13-week stay in a cold double garage more comfortable.

The winning team will keep the house they build, which has been valued at more than R1 million.

The contestants were selected from more than 3 000 entries and were narrowed down to 120 by means of a scoring process. Judges then conducted telephonic interviews and selected the 20 most suited candidate couples. On-camera interviews were held to select the 12 semi-finalist couples, who were profiled on Cashbuild's Weekend Life and Leisure programme on SABC 2. Viewers voted for the four couples they would like to see on the show.

The idea for the show evolved out of viewers' requests for DIY information on the current Weekend Life and Leisure programme on SABC 2 on Saturdays, which is sponsored by Cashbuild.

Cashbuild's Chief Executive, Pat Goldrick, says the response to the programme demonstrates an enormous demand for technical advice and DIY solutions: "The building process can be a frustrating and complicated task for the layman and On Site is yet another way of extending our expertise to a wider audience."
