MTN sets Kevin Fine free from his Y’ello box!

MTN set free radio personality, Kevin Fine yesterday morning, after a five day stint in a 3x4 metre Y'ello box attached to a billboard on Corlett Drive in Johannesburg.

From 22 April to 27 April, Fine used MTN's cellular technology to survive in a confined space. MTN celebrates 10 years of cellular freedom this year – and wanted to highlight how far cellular technology has come in 10 years.

The 5fm radio DJ used a wide range of MTN's cellular technology during the five days. This included MTN's Cellsecure solution, which enabled Fine to remotely turn his lights on and off, as well as monitor his home and control the security of his possessions whilst not at home. Fine also provided traffic updates using MTN's Traffic Cams. MTN Traffic Cams work through cameras placed on MTN radio masts at various interchanges, including Buccleuch, Sandton, Grayston and Rivonia intersections in Johannesburg, giving motorists live feeds via MMS service.

Fine sent and received over 5000 SMS's, and received over 2200 calls on MTN's network. Additionally, he interacted with 5fm DJ's from MTN's Y'ello Box on a daily basis and broadcast his show from the Y'ello Box during his weekend show.
