Jozi FM proposals to go before ICASA council

At yesterday's Monday, 1 October 2007 emergency meeting to resolve the crisis engulfing Soweto's community radio station Jozi FM, the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) and the parties involved put forward proposals to be tabled before the full-sitting of ICASA council today, Tuesday, 2 October.

The meeting follows reports that Jozi FM has been embroiled in a controversy over control of the radio station by various groups, challenging the legitimacy of the current management and the board.

Among the proposals put forward are the following:

  • An AGM be held on 27 October 2007
  • The National Community Radio Forum to facilitate the AGM and communicate with both parties equally
  • Both parties are to work together in finding the lasting solution
  • Jozi FM to run advertisement for the AGM with immediate effect

The dispute resolution process, to be overseen by ICASA, seeks to be consultative and will culminate in the holding of an AGM of the radio station.
