Buses, taxis and trucks checked in police blitz
allAfrica.com also reports that this was done as part of the new National Rolling Enforcement Plan (NREP) and million-a-month vehicle check announced by Transport Minister Sibusiso Ndebele. During Cop17 and the December holidays, Ndebele said, traffic officers will be out in full force to ensure safe roads. Those who blatantly disregard road rules, he warned, will be arrested, detained, sentenced to a hefty fine or imprisonment and their driving licence will be cancelled or suspended. Drivers involved in fatal road crashes will face charges of murder or culpable homicide. "Let us drive to save lives, and end death on our roads," said the Minister.
