A healthy 100 years old

Bankmed, the closed medical scheme that services the banking sector, has achieved a significant milestone in the South African market - the celebration of 100 years of looking to their members' health.

To mark such an auspicious event takes more than an email to the stakeholders, it takes an evening in surroundings that reflect the gravitas of the occasion.

And so we found ourselves at the historic Johannesburg City Hall, a venue that is also celebrating 100 years of existence, for the Bankmed Chairman's Centenary Celebration. The guest list featured distinguished representatives from some of the biggest banking institutions in the land - Standard Bank, Absa, Barclays, FNB, RMB, Land Bank, the Reserve Bank and SBV Services - all gathered to bear witness to a truly impressive achievement.

While our surroundings reflected history and tradition, it was the story of Bankmed, the realisation that it was founded by only five people way back in 1914 and the growth and success it has achieved since then that had a lasting impact. Guests were treated to a synopsis of the Bankmed timeline via AV, backed up by a massive graphic wall with selected highlights and plinths with memorabilia from the past.

However, it was not the past that was the focus of the guest speakers, it was the future. The future of a medical scheme that operates not for profit, but for its members.

The future of a medical scheme that is using the previous 100 years as a stepping stone, a launch pad, for the next 100 years.
