EcoDepot launches online South African DIY marketplace

All of its products, sourced from suppliers and wholesalers, are stocked in South Africa and delivered across the country by courier. Barry van Lingen and Cecile Meintjes founded the company, which is accelerated by Acco Ventures. Van Lingen is an avid entrepreneur who has worked in e-commerce for eight years and his passion for DIY projects resulted in this business venture. Meintjes is a director of the Cape Town-based business accelerator Acco Ventures.

Wider choice

EcoDepot had a soft launch in June 2018 and saw sales coming in from day one. “We expected sales to come from our affordable, entry-level products such as LED lights and locks, but were quite surprised that most sales actually came from more expensive products such as water filtration systems with UV sterilisers, water pumps, and security cameras,” remarked Van Lingen.
