Travel Blog Conference attracts international participants
The second Getaway Travel Blog Conference, taking place in Cape Town on 4 August 2012 and sponsored by Cape Town Tourism, will play host to top overseas bloggers Nellie Huang (of Wildjunket), Melvin Boecher (Traveldudes), Matt Long (Landlopers) and Keith Jenkins (Velvet Escape), each of whom has a large online audience and significant social media following. They will share their insights into a range of topics that will help prospective bloggers, from the basics to advanced strategies.
"Travel bloggers play a key role in tourism and our reach is increasing all the time. While success in online media doesn't happen overnight, there are some key tips and tricks that every blogger should know," explained international presenter Matt Long.
The speakers will share the platform with top local bloggers such as Andrew Brauteseth, the man behind the photography blog, Guy with Camera; Joseph Lawrence, user experience designer at Clickshape; Mariëtte du Toit-Helmbold, CEO of Cape Town Tourism; and Getaway editor Cameron Ewart-Smith.

"Travel bloggers are the ambassadors of a new digital age in tourism, but with so much information and choice out there, they may have a challenging time enticing readers," commented Du Toit-Helmbold. "This conference will assist them in sharpening their tools when it comes to writing and presenting user-friendly travel content."
Getaway web editor and conference organiser Sarah Duff said she was thrilled at the calibre of speakers they had lined up. "It's great that they want to share their knowledge and skills with the South African travel blogging community."
Getaway has won the best travel blog category at the SA Blog Awards for the past two years, and fosters a community of almost 200 bloggers. The travel brand is well placed in the South African blogging world to host this conference, Duff said.
