Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show public tastings

Wine lovers should get their glasses out, as the annual Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show gets ready to showcase more than 100 wines achieving Trophy, Gold and Silver medals at this year's judging, held in May at the single night tastings.
Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show public tastingsThe 2013 public tastings take place on Friday 7 June at the Bill Gallagher Room, Sandton Convention Centre and on Thursday 13 June at Ballroom East, CTICC in Cape Town.

Wine lovers can expect to sample the industry's best wines entered into 38 categories covering a wide range of varieties and wine styles - from bubblies, sauvignons and Rieslings to cabernets, Shiraz, merlots and Cape Port with some lesser-known varieties making an appearance.

The public tasting events are held immediately after the announcement of the results and form part of an extensive roadshow sponsored by Old Mutual. Those attending the public tastings can take advantage of the opportunity to buy wines at show prices while there are still available stocks. A handful of Museum Class medal winners - white wines are at least four years old and reds, eight - are included in the line-up. Wines can be ordered at special prices via MAKRO at the public tastings.

Competition results 30 May

Now in its 12th year, the competition is widely considered the country's most revered wine selection process and attracts more than 1 000 wines annually - all rigorously assessed 'blind' by a panel of highly regarded international and local palates. All wines available at the public tastings have achieved at least 80 on the 100-point scoring system and are classified by the judges as excellent wines of distinction.

The results will be announced on 30 May from 4pm on, with the announcement of the Most Successful Producer of the year as the highlight of this competition.
