The launch of 'Listening to SA Campaign' will take place today, Monday 16 January 2012 in Melville, Johannesburg at 2pm. The media conference, chaired by justice Pius Langa, chairperson of the Press Freedom Commission (PFC), invites the media and interested members of the public to attend.

The campaign will consist of public hearings, in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg, where members of the South African public, including individuals, media houses, civil society, political parties, religious organisations etc, can voice their opinion on the regulation of print media and media freedom.

An independent body from different sectors

Justice Langa will also give an update on the PFC's recently completed process of receiving written submissions, which concluded on 15 December 2011.

The PFC is an independent body of nine commissioners from different sectors of society, formed to investigate the best possible regulatory system for South Africa print media which would be suitable for South Africa and which is in conformity with the SA Constitution. The Listening to SA Campaign is an integral aspect of the PFC's work, and is the South African public's opportunity to shape their print regulatory system by engaging with the Commission.
