International advertising awards for Independent Newspapers

Independent Newspapers Cape has made a big haul of awards at the International Newspaper Marketing Association (INMA's) annual marketing awards, held this year in Vancouver, Canada at the end of April.

The INMA World Congress honoured the Cape Argus as the leading newspaper with 6 awards, including one of the top three awards, 'Best in Graphic Design'.

John Lloyd, Commercial Director of Independent Newspapers Cape commented on the achievements and said, "It's extremely gratifying for our Cape titles to have excelled at the INMA Awards for 5 consecutive years."

Lloyd explained that nearly 1200 entries from 170 newspapers around the world were received for the 68th annual INMA Awards. The judging took place in Minneapolis, USA, in February, with awards being made in four circulation groups within 17 categories.

Judging is based on concept, creativity, copy and graphic design, production, and overall effect as well as results. First place recipients receive a statuette and runners-up a certificate of merit.

"This fine haul of silverware and certificates is due in large measure to the superb effort of our marketing team and of course to the brilliance of our long-time advertising agency, King James. My grateful thanks to all of them."

The Cape Argus won first place in the following categories:

  • In-Newspaper Promotion: Readership
  • In-Newspaper Promotion: Advertising
  • Radio Promotion
  • Public Relations Programmes and Events
  • Premiums/Incentives
