The SAA Chairman trophy, which is annually awarded to the wine producer with the biggest volume supplied to the airline's domestic services, seals a milestone year for the Malan Family of Simonsig, who celebrated their 40th anniversary of winemaking excellence in 2008.
SAA selects its wines to meet the expectations of their passengers and aim to maintain global standards travellers experience on international routes. In addition to the Chairman Award, Simonsig secured two 187ml red wine selections on SAA's wine list for 2009.
“At Simonsig we always strive to aim high when it comes to quality and the fulfillment of our wines. This latest achievement confirms that the sky is definitely not our limit and we are delighted to be able to share our pride and passion with those who are going places,” says Francois Malan, one of three brothers who own this family estate.
Selected from more than 900 entries by a panel of local and international wine experts, Simonsig Shiraz 2007 and Simonsig Cabernet Sauvignon/Shiraz 2007 were included in the set of approximately 80 locally produced SAA wines for 2009. These wines will be served on board all the airline's domestic, regional and international flights in premium and economy class.
