Nestle invests $100m in Indonesia plant

JAKARTA, INDONESIA: Nestle, the world's biggest food company, said it invested US$100 million in Indonesia to expand its East Java milk processing plant, as it targets growth in emerging markets.

Nestle spokesman Brata Hardjosubroto said the expansion would double the plant's capacity and create up to 400 jobs this year.

Hardjosubroto said the company aimed to employ a total of 1,000 workers at the plant by the end of the year. Nestle employs a total of 2,500 people across three plants in Indonesia.

Nestle recently posted a 42% drop in its 2009 net profit and set its sights on one billion new customers in emerging markets over the coming decade while aiming to increase its investments in Africa, Latin America and Asia.
