Nederburg Edelkeur wins top award
Nederburg's 2005 Private Bin Edelkeur, sold exclusively on the annual Nederburg Auction, has won the trophy for top dessert wine at the 2010 Tri Nations Wine Challenge, in Sydney. It was one of 18 contenders for the trophy. Wines are submitted by invitation only, selected by a panel of judges as the finest national examples of their style.
The panel, chaired by UK wine writer, critic and judge, Robert Joseph involved three other notable and widely published wine writers. They were Australian James Halliday, also a winegrower and winemaker; Bob Campbell MW from New Zealand; and South Africa's Michael Fridjhon.
It already has several top awards, including a Veritas double gold medal won at the 2007 SA National Wine Show; gold and best-in-class rating at the 2008 International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC); as well as gold at the 2009 Michelangelo International Wine Awards.
The 2009 Winemaster's Reserve Noble Late Harvest retails for R60 a 375ml bottle ex-cellar. The auction wine sold at R1900 for 6 bottles.
