SABMiller announces appointment of director

The world's second biggest brewer, SABMiller plc, on Wednesday, 20 May 2009, announced that Dr Dambisa Moyo has agreed to join the SABMiller board as an independent non-executive director.

Dambisa Moyo, age 40, was born and raised in Zambia, southern Africa.

She completed a Doctorate in Economics at Oxford University and holds a Masters from Harvard University. She has a Bachelors degree in Chemistry and an MBA in Finance at the American University in Washington D.C.

She worked at Goldman Sachs for 8 years in the debt capital markets, hedge fund coverage and global macro-economics teams. Previously she worked at the World Bank in Washington DC. Dambisa is a writer and commentator on international aid strategies and economics.

She is a Patron for Absolute Return for Kids (ARK), a hedge fund supported children's charity, and serves on the Board of the Lundin for Africa Foundation and on the Board of Room to Read, an education charity.

Dambisa was honoured as a World Economic Forum Young Leader in 2009.

Meyer Kahn, Chairman of SABMiller plc, commented: "I am delighted that Dambisa Moyo has agreed to join our board.

"Her rare combination of academic experience and real world expertise, combined with a deep knowledge of global economic trends and a real concern for Africa, a continent to which we as a group are hugely committed, will bring a new perspective to our deliberations and will be of great value to SABMiller. Her appointment also enhances the independence and balance of the board whilst continuing the process of progressive renewal."

Dr Moyo will join the board of SABMiller plc on 1 June 2009.
