Sarie editor one of top 10 SA women achievers

Michélle van Breda, editor of Sarie magazine, has been commended as an outstanding achiever in her field after being nominated as one of the top 10 women achievers in South Africa - the only woman journalist and editor among the top 10 this year - by Rapport and City Press' 10th annual Prestige Women's Day.

The selected top ten achievers are women whose tenacious perseverance, commitment and strong belief in their personal abilities has allowed them to shine in their various career fields. The independent awards were created to honour these women and pay tribute to their commitment to their careers without being linked to a specific academic, political or business agenda.

The 10 women have been chosen from an extensive pool of nominations under the chairmanship of Tim du Plessis, Rapport's editor and Mathatha Tsedu. Both editors have commented that to receive the accolade of a Prestige woman, she must be someone who both inspires others and who in turn holds their respect.

The Prestige announcement is the latest acknowledgment of van Breda and her exemplary work standards. Since her inception as editor at Sarie in 2001, Sarie has won an MPASA Sappi Pica for the Best Women's Title in South Africa twice, as well as three AdVantage Awards, including van Breda being awarded the Best Magazine Editor title.
