Hot design trends for 2007

Following the sell-out success of the 2006 Cape Town seminar, Visi magazine will host two seminars in Johannesburg and Cape Town this February featuring leading trend expert Li Edelkoort. As a leading lifestyle forecaster, Edelkoort prophesises on what we will be wearing, driving and eating in the future.

With her asymmetrical clothes and splash of grey in her slicked-back hair, Edelkoort looks like an elegant evangelist. To many in the design world, that's exactly what she is.

More stylish than Faith Popcorn, more esoteric than Martha Stewart, Edelkoort was named one of the world's 25 Most Influential People in fashion by Time magazine.

From her Paris-based company, Trend Union, she shapes the future by advising her clients - including Coca-Cola, Lacoste, Estée Lauder and Swarovski - about how tomorrow's consumers will want to live, dress, drive and eat. Her ability to sense upcoming trends and predict what consumers want to buy several seasons ahead of time is world-renowned.

"Long ago, she told Nissan that it needed to build a car that was rounder, more family friendly. The result: the Micra, which was voted the European Car of the Year in 1993," says Visi magazine editor Sumien Brink.

"She and her team of 20 have dreamed up the name for the Gucci fragrance Rush, designed watches for Swatch and even developed a formula for Sprite. We are extremely fortunate to have someone of Li's calibre in South Africa and this is a unique opportunity to hear and learn from one of the world's leading trend guru.

"Named one of the 30 most Influential People in Design by I-d magazine, Li's focus on the links between, art, fashion, design and consumer culture is integral to future design philosophy," adds Brink.

The presentation will incorporate information on concepts, colours, materials and strategies for fashion, design and interiors. Seminar delegates will also get the opportunity after the talk to ask questions.

To book your place at the seminar, call Ruald Rheeder on +27 (0)21 417 5151 or email . Tickets cost R650 per person.
