SAA ad takes to the skies with 10 years of freedom

South African Airways' new television advert celebrating South Africa's 10 years of democracy takes South Africans back to some of the momentous occasions and extraordinary success stories in our brief democratic history in which the airline has become indelibly linked.

Created by HerdBuoys McCann-Erickson and directed by Giaco Angelini, the commercial features the major events at which SAA has played a powerful and impactful role in uniting and inspiring both those present at the event and those watching it on television. Amongst these events is the unforgettable 1995 Rugby World Cup where the first stadium fly-over took place and the Springboks went on to win the tournament, followed by the impressive win by Bafana Bafana in the African Cup of Nations and the inauguration of President Mbeki. The new ad shows actual footage of these memorable moments in our new democracy - people dancing and celebrating, interspersed with footage of the young son of the pilot flying the SAA plane in the fly-over in all his pride and excitement. It ends with a visual of Miriam Makeba surrounded by a group of children who are playing outdoors with paper airplanes, as a SAA airplane flies overhead. This colourful and vibrant footage all takes place to the energetic and uplifting soundtrack of Aretha Franklin's 'Think'.
