TVC shows impact of Internet in SA

The second commercial in MWeb’s new advertising campaign, courtesy of Ogilvy Cape Town, launches this week. Focusing specifically on MWeb’s broadband service, the ad sees this Internet service provider continue its theme of capturing the essence of what the Internet means to South Africans today.

“The Internet has had a massive impact on our generation, though many people nowadays take it for granted. It has entrenched itself in both our working and social lives and this latest campaign showcases this coming together. Quite simply, it brings back the magic of the web,” says Ryan Reed, creative director of Ogilvy, Cape Town.

MWeb has a history of memorable ads since its inception almost 10 years ago. “Our partnership with Ogilvy has taken us in many creative directions and their latest take on our brand uses locally relevant universal themes that speak clearly to our audience,” says Carolyn Holgate, marketing manager of MWeb Home.

The television commercials focus on love, work and play, all elements of life that have been changed by the introduction of the Internet. “Everyone dreams of falling in love, being successful in business and generally getting the most out of life. With this execution, we have created an overriding message that the Internet and MWeb is here to help. So why not use it?” says Holgate.

The new campaign is the result of many months of ground work, shooting on locations from Hillbrow to The Cradle of Humankind. “The commercial celebrates the adoption of Internet technology in SA and the locations visually portray how South Africans have advanced with this technology,” says Reed.

The second commercial in the new campaign, designed to maintain brand presence, airs this month across e.tv, M-Net, DStv and SABC channels.
