A pixel or two, anyone?
A more user-friendly "directory-style" function, listing the benefit of advertisers, has been incorporated in Amapixels.co.za, another local version of British student Alex Tew's Million Dollar Homepage. Set up by South Africans David and Ray Warren, the aim is to build a one million pixel page consisting of a wide range of SA brands, services and personal websites.
Tew sold one million pixels for US$1 million in just over five months, as a way of raising funds for his university studies (see www.milliondollarhomepage.com).
The Warrens, who have recently returned from the UK, are hoping to capture the imagination of the public as they take on the challenge of selling a million pixels in South Africa. Their approach is also intended to create a certain element of surprise for anyone visiting www.amapixels.co.za.
The more pixels bought, the more space there is to show off the advertiser's brand or graphic. Rates start at R100.00 (R1.00 a pixel, 100 pixels minimum), making it affordable to very small organisations or personal websites. Obviously, big brands wanting to make a statement can splash out in the thousands. Payment is once-off until 2010.

In addition, AmaPixels.co.za is donating 10% of all money received from the sale of pixels to the Cancer Association of SA, the Eikehof Interim Home in particular, details of which are on www.amapixels.co.za website.
