Financial Controller

AFDA is inviting applications for the position of financial controller based in Rosebank, Johannesburg.

Roles and responsibilities

• Record and review cash receipts and expenditures.
• Ensure that receivables are collected promptly and managed effectively.
• Contact customers regarding overdue accounts and follow up if payments are not made by the promised date.
• Send out SMSs and letters to customers when required.
• Set up meetings with customers when necessary.
• Conduct continuous follow-ups and gain a full understanding of customers' financial situations.
• Monitor bad debt.
• Issue credit notes to customers.
• Load supplier invoices for payment.
• Review receivables.
• Track expenditures against budgets to ensure no overruns.
• Conduct periodic reviews and reconciliations of all accounts to ensure their accuracy.
• Maintain an orderly accounting filing system.
• Prepare monthly journal entries.
• Issue invoices and statements to customers.
• Assemble information for external auditors, internal auditors, and BBBEE annually.
• Assist in developing strong internal controls where lacking.
• Provide clerical and administrative support to management as requested.
• File and archive documents when requested.

Selection criteria and key competencies

• Matric/Grade 12.
• Diploma in financial accounting or bookkeeping.
• Collection experience is highly advantageous.
• Minimum six to eight years of experience in a similar role.
• Advanced Pastel Evolution experience.
• Practical exposure to accounting, reconciliations, and trial balance.
