SHORT BIOGRAPHY 2022
Lumko Mtimde is a founder and Executive Director of Mtimde Holdings (Pty) Ltd. He is also a former Non-executive Director of several Boards including SABC, SENTECH, NSFAS, Media Advertising Information and Communication Technology Sector Education and Training Agency (MICT SETA) and Eastern Cape Information Initiative (ECITI). He is also a former Council member of the Sports Adjudicating Panel, at the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture, Gauteng Government; Chairperson of KwaBhaca Community Development and Support Trust (KCDST) and Chairperson of Mvenyane Education Trust (MVEET). He is a Guest Lecturer at Links Centre, University of Witwatersrand. He is on the MTN Radio Awards Hall of Fame, holds the Lifetime Achievers Award for promoting media diversity and development from AIP Eastern Cape, Eastern Cape Special Premiers Awards and won several other awards.
Mtimde has vast more than 20 years experience and skills in corporate governance, executive management, general management, financial management, human resources management, change management, policy formulation, regulation, ICT, media and broadcasting, and understanding local government. He is a former Special Advisor to the Minister in the Presidency (The Presidency, Republic of South Africa), former CEO
of USAASA, former Chief of Staff of the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries; former Acting Chief Executive Officer at Alfred Nzo Development Agency (ANDA), former Chief Executive Officer of the Media Development and Diversity Agency (MDDA), former Councillor of both Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) and Independent Communications Authority of SA (ICASA). He is the former Chief Director (Broadcasting Policy) of the Ministry of Communications and former CEO of the National Community Radio Forum (NCRF).
He is a former Chairperson of ANDA Board, chaired several Board Committees including Technology Committee (SABC), Audit & Risk Committee (ANDA), etc and served on several other Boards including but not limited to: Institute of the Advancement of Journalism (IAJ), Radio Freedom, Judge for Prestigious Most Influential Women in Business and Government Awards (MIW), Judge of the Titans for CEO Communications, former member of the Unisa Communications Science Advisory Board, former member of UNITECH Board of Advisory and was also a member of the ICT BEE Charter Steering Committee.
Internationally, he is World Summit Awards (WSA) Board (based in Austria), a member of the Africa Steering Committee for the Global Forum and member of the High Level Panel of Advisors of Global Alliance for ICT and Development. He was Vice-Chairperson of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Southern Africa (TRASA) now called CRASA based in Botswana and also served on the Association of Communications Regulators of AFRICA Network (RIARC/ACRAN) based in Benin. He was the Vice-President of the World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (AMARC) based in Canada and was the President of AMARC Africa.
Mr Mtimde holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Telecommunications and Information Policy from Unisa and a BSc Biochemistry and Physiology from University of Western Cape.
