Mchunu joined East Coast Radio from Tourism KwaZulu-Natal, where she served as General Manager: Marketing. Her role at TKZN involved heading up the brand and marketing management team and being responsible for bringing key projects to KZN.

Before joining TKZN in 2007, Boni served in a Brand Management capacity at Unilever for seven years, overseeing the marketing of fast-moving consumer goods. Mchunu's first job was with ABSA and her responsibility was around marketing the financial services of ABSA.

She believes her entire career journey has shaped her into the leader that she is today:

One thing that I have learnt for sure is that business is business, regardless of the different industries. I have learnt that no matter the sector, one has to work hard in order to achieve their personal ambitions and the company goals and objectives.

Mchunu holds a Bachelor's degree in marketing, a diploma in business management and a diploma in project management. She holds various other certifications including an Executive Leadership certificate from Wits and London Business Schools and a Business executive certificate from the UK Association of Business executives.

She enjoys the broadcasting industry and that radio has adapted to the changing media landscape to remain a relevant and efficient medium to inform, connect, entertain and educate communities.

When Mchunu isn't hard at work ensuring efficient business operations or using her position to inspire others, she cherishes spending time with her husband and three children. She also likes to lead an active lifestyle and enjoys time at the gym, running with her husband or playing squash.
