Inter Hotel Challenge (IHC) winners were announced last night, 28 November, at a gala event held at the Southern Sun Cape Sun. Sponsored by Heineken Beverages, the annual competition aims to identify and nurture the best hospitality talent in South Africa.
A total of 26 hotel chains and boutique establishments from major metropoles and other top tourist destinations participated in the challenge. All contenders attended workshops in Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Durban, hosted by industry experts as a prerequisite for entry. Participants competed across diverse categories including wine stewards, mixologists, chefs, pastry chefs, bakers, baristas, and concierges.
The top prizes of this year's Inter Hotel Challenge went to the best wine steward, chef, and pastry chef, each earning travel opportunities abroad. Nkanyiso Zikhali, the 2023 IHC Wine Steward of the Year from The Oyster Box in KwaZulu-Natal, will travel to Amsterdam.
