Double hat trick at Belgian wine awards

Spier has scored a double hat trick at Belgium’s Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, winning three gold medals for its premium wines for the third year running. South Africa’s total medal haul included one Great Gold, 21 Gold and 39 Silver medals, out of a 5735 entries from 47 countries.

Spier Private Collection Shiraz 2004, Spier Private Collection Cabernet Sauvignon 2004 and Spier Vintage Selection Malbec/Cabernet Franc/Petit Verdot 2005 each won Gold, while a Silver medal was awarded to Spier Private Collection Merlot 2005.

The win is the result of a continual quality focus, according to Spier Wines MD Neville Carew. “We never lose sight of our goal to produce the utmost in quality,” he says.

“From our entry level to ultra-premium wines, our viticultural and winemaking team have spent the past five years establishing procedures that are paying dividends now.”
