Quentin Crida on violin and Matthew Reid on clarinet are well-known for their versatile performances and this particular performance hears them playing solo and together in an all-Mozart programme. With the back drop of the garden complementing the compositions in this recital, the morning features the Divertimento in F Major K138 (1772), Adagio in E Major for violin and orchestra K261 (1776) and the concerto for clarinet in A Major K622 (1791) and showcases these two musicians at their very best.

Accomplished violinist Quentin Crida is the founder and leader of Camerata Tinta Barocca. From studying, working and touring overseas, recording film soundtracks and playing live with such artists as Bon Jovi, Eric Clapton, Seal, and Rod Stewart, this talented musician returned to his home shores some ten years ago.

In 2004 Camerata Tinta Barocca was founded and Crida laughingly explains that the name is derived from the musicians' passion for baroque music and red wine! Much in demand for their unique way of playing, the group has performed a wide variety of baroque works and their repertoire is extensive. Although playing on modern instruments, the musicians play in the style of period baroque instruments, using different bow strokes and less vibrato than is used in typically modern orchestras of today. This gives the performances an “historically informed” style.

Joining Quintin is clarinettist Matthew Reid whose distinguished career has also seen him studying and performing here and overseas. His involvement with a number of different musical genres has seen him as musical director of the annual Yiddish Song Festival at the Baxter Theatre for the last ten years and he runs both the “Playing with Fire Balkan Band” and the “Playing with Fire Klezmer Band”.

Your morning starts with a glass of bubbly followed by a sumptuous breakfast prepared by that maestro of food; Pamela Shippel. Breakfast is served from 09h30 to 10h45 and the concert is from 11h00 to 12h00.

Details: Ticket price is R150 per concert (by collecting your ticket directly from the Kirstenbosch Ticket office you can save R10) which includes entry into the garden, breakfast and entry to Kirstenbosch.
