Unique new reality show to be launched by M-Net

M-Net launches a world-first on the 3rd of February, 2004, set to take the reality TV genre, as well as interactivity to the next level.

Called B On M-Net, the show utilises all the interactive experience and resources developed for shows like Big Brother and has been made possible by a collaboration with a Munich-based production company, Earth Television Network. B On M-Net gives wannabes the chance of a lifetime to strut their stuff in front of the cameras and have their talents broadcast to an audience.

Oracle Airtime Sales, the sales arm of M-Net and DSTV, has confirmed that MTN is the headline sponsor for the show. Several shopping malls countrywide have also come on board as centre sponsors, making space available for M-Net's mobile studios, where entrants can have their segments recorded. The participating malls are The Zone in Rosebank, Menlyn Park in Pretoria, Canal Walk in Cape Town and Gateway in Durban.

B On M-Net will use a patented system for gathering broadcast quality content from remote cameras, which are activated by cell phones. Entrants must dial the 083 number displayed on the side of the mobile studios from their cell phones. A live television director then takes the calls and guides them through the recording process. There are several topics for entrants to choose from such as sending out a message to someone, introducing and dedicating a music video, or doing a stand-up comic routine.

Clips from these recordings will be broadcast on a dedicated B On M-Net channel (Channel 41 on DSTV) and on a 30-minute show on M-Net at 7pm on Tuesdays. Entrants whose recordings are chosen will be alerted via SMS, as to when their segment will be aired. Everyone can become a star on DSTV, but only the best make it onto the prime time weekly slot on M-Net.

The content of B on M-Net will be determined by audience votes and developed by various themes that will run throughout the series such as the SA Sports Illustrated swimwear model search, whereby entrants have to a model a swimsuit in front of the cameras. Explains M-Net's Gavin Wratten, "The winner will be the person with the most audience votes out of ten finalists. She will then travel to exotic locations for photo shoots and be featured on the pages of the magazine."

Wratten says other options that are being made available to entrants include 'Dare 4 a Dream' and 'Leap Year Wedding Proposals'. 'Dare 4 a Dream' requires entrants to perform a dare on camera in exchange for the lifelong dream of someone close to them being fulfilled. In terms of the 'Leap Year Wedding Proposals,' the best proposal on camera by a woman to her partner will win her the prize of having the cost of her wedding covered by M-Net. You and Huisgenoot are partnering M-Net by running promotions for these options and also publishing the entrants' stories.

The mobile studios opened on the 15th of January 2004 and commercials are currently being flighted on M-Net alerting the public to this groundbreaking show and encouraging individuals to take part.
