The return of Darren Scott

After a life-changing decision to curtail his demanding TV career, controversial radio DJ and TV presenter Darren Scott will return, refreshed from a sabbatical, to his first love - radio - in the 12pm to 3pm slot on East Coast Radio on 1 May 2006.

Scott spent a year at the station three years ago, commuting from Johannesburg to Durban, keeping up his TV and other commitments. Now he has downsized his portfolio, bought a house at Simbithi on the North Coast, and has taken up the offer to re-join East Coast Radio after he filled in for Alan and Sorisha for two weeks on the breakfast show in December.

"I'm excited by the prospect of a completely new radio time-slot which will give me the opportunity to build the content and grow the audience," he says. "The new slot will be a little different from my previous drive time formats. There will be a lot more comedy, music and some great new features.

"I am thrilled to be back on air. Radio has always been a great love - you get to talk to so many people from many diverse backgrounds and you just don't know when you're going to hear something interesting," he adds.

Love him or hate him, Scott brings to radio professionalism and confidence, plus a wealth of experience - not to mention a razor sharp tongue. Naveen Singh, East Coast Radio programme manager, says: "I know Darren will be an inspiration to the younger jocks at the station and we look forward to his new ideas and fresh approach."
