KFM 94.5 announces the KFM Teacher of the Year

After an inspirational five-week search, leading breakfast show KFM Mornings with Darren, Sherlin and Sibs announced the winner of the KFM Teacher of the Year campaign.
Jeremy Dietsiso, a much-loved life sciences teacher at Silversands High School in Happy Valley, emerged the undisputed winner in this incredibly popular competition. Always positive and laughing, Dietsiso was nominated for the outstanding work he does at the school and in the community. Some of his accolades include introducing netball to the school, enrolling his learners in science expos and helping them with personal needs such as school equipment, school clothing, data and toiletries. Dietsiso also started a successful feeding scheme at the school and in the community of Happy Valley.
Dietsiso was elated on hearing the announcement. “I totally love what I do. This year made me rediscover my love of teaching. I hope I can motivate other teachers who are struggling during this difficult time to push through and keep going and to stay focussed on the big picture. The learners need us,” he said.
A total of 10 finalists were selected from more than 1,300 nominations, and Dietsiso scooped up more than half of the 8,684 unique votes.
As Teacher of the Year, Dietsiso receives R15,000 cash for himself, plus R10,000 cash for Silversands High School, courtesy of KFM 94.5 and Pick n Pay School Club.
“This campaign is a testament to the commitment of each and every hero teacher in this country. What an incredible acknowledgement of the profession. And what a worthy winner. Jeremy is the future of this profession,” says Darren Simpson, host of KFM Mornings with Darren, Sherlin and Sibs.
KFM Teacher of the Year is sponsored by the Pick n Pay School Club – an initiative that annually supports more than 3,000 schools with curriculum-aligned free educational resources. Since lockdown started, Pick n Pay School Club and Feed the Nation Foundation also provided more than 3.5 million meals to learners in need.
Videos of all finalists can be viewed on KFM 94.5’s Facebook and Instagram pages and on social media handles #KFMTeacherOfTheYear and #KFMRedJersey.
