Bringing Joburgers home
94.7 Highveld Stereo's Jeremy Mansfield and the Rude Awakening (RAW) team have joined forces with Virgin Atlantic in Operation Ama British to reunite Joburgers now living in London with those relatives they left behind in sunny South Africa. A total of 10 South Africans will be brought back to the City of Gold.
Explains Ravi Naidoo, 94.7 Highveld Stereo station manager, "We're always on the look-out for unique broadcasting opportunities that appeal to our target market. And with many Joburgers now living in London, this was one of those opportunities. Not only is there something in it for our listeners here at home, but also for the people listening via the Net."
Since Monday, 14 August 2006, the RAW team has been calling for listeners to write in and motivate why their friends or family in London should get the chance to come back to Joburg for a holiday.
To coincide with the competition, the RAW team will be travelling to the UK and broadcasting live from the Langham Hotel in London, 4 to 8 September. Then, the friends and family members mentioned in the most convincing listener motivations will be invited to join the RAW team for breakfast at the live broadcast, with the possibility of winning two tickets home to Joburg each day.
"The Rude Awakening has a big following overseas among the South African ex-pat community," comments Naidoo. "This is evident through the popularity of the show's Global Hi! slot, which features letters from South Africans living abroad who listen to the show via the Internet.
