Amazon's new tablet may challenge iPad

Already there are a plethora of tablet computers available on the market and yet none of them have made any serious inroads into the domination that Apple's iPad is able to maintain. However, Amazon's new Kindle might be the first tablet to seriously challenge the iPad according to a report published in Fin24.

It says that research firm Forrester has predicted that the new device represents a real challenger. Researcher Sarah Rotman Epps said that Amazon's apparent willingness to sell hardware at a loss, combined with the strength of its brand content, cloud infrastructure and commercial assets, makes it a real challenger.

She says that if Amazon can deliver the machine in the sub-$300 price point it could sell between 3-million and 5-million devices in the fourth quarter of this year.

Fin24 reports that Apple sold 9,25-million iPads last quarter and currently dominates the market for multimedia devices.
