Zuma wants more skills

Zuma raised this in his closing address at the ANC's national executive committee lekgotla in Pretoria yesterday.
He told leaders - including ministers, deputy ministers, director generals of national departments, premiers, and mayors - that municipalities needed to employ skilled officials and said that some financial officers were unable to execute their duties adequately.
Zuma said Nombembe is yet to release his findings on provincial and national government departments and he hoped the situation would be better.
In his report, Nombembe said a mere 13 - or 5% - of the 283 municipalities in the country had received clean audits.
Despite repeated warnings from his office and its offer of intervention strategies, there had been no improvement in this year's audits compared with those for 2009-2010, he said.
Not a single municipality in five provinces - Gauteng, North West, Free State, Northern Cape and Eastern Cape - produced a clean audit.
