This year's AdReview Awards holds surprises

After an outstanding year of achievement for South African advertising, numerous agencies are in contention for the AdReview Agency of the Year accolade, to be presented on 24 April 2008. “A rising tide floats all ships,” says awards convenor Tony Koenderman. “We've come to the end of a boom period for advertising, and just to do well won't be enough to win the award. You'll have to be an outstanding performer.”

The award is given for the best combination of professional and business achievement, as measured by creative and effectiveness awards, financial performance, business development and innovation, likeability scores, new business gains and marketplace achievements.

Several surprises

Koenderman declined to single out potential winners, but said he already knew of several surprise success stories which would throw the process wide open.

Agency achievement is recognised in a number of awards for regional (Gauteng, Cape and KwaZulu-Natal), specialist and size categories. They include the Digital Agency of the Year instituted last year as the online advertising market begins to make its presence felt, and, for the first time this year, the Gauteng Agency of the Year.

Other awards include The Big Idea, for the best execution of a single idea across numerous communication channels, and the Ad Person of the Year.

Launch of sixth edition

The awards will be presented at a gala banquet at Vodaworld. It will also see the launch of the sixth edition of Tony Koenderman's AdReview, an annual overview of the marketing and advertising sector, positioned as the essential guide for marketers.

“Our primary purpose is to provide the best possible information resource to those making choices about agencies, design shops, PR companies and media,” says Koenderman. “We have masses of information ranking agencies by size and performance, and for the first time we are introducing a rating system for all agencies.”

AdReview is published as a supplement to Finweek, a leading weekly business magazine.
