The 15 adults, who are the winners of the competition, are those whose finances or circumstances prevented them from completing their secondary education. The ASC qualification is the equivalent to a matric qualification. Ranging from 20 to 40 years of age, the winners will study through Matric Works for their certificates.

This 2018 #Matric4Madiba winners are:

  • Sibongile Mbatha (29) from Katlehong, south of Johannesburg
  • Wilson Mabetlela (31) from Honeydew, Johannesburg

They will have access to the subjects of their choice, whether they need to complete just one or all six subjects. They will also be supplied with course material, presented to them through practice online learning methodologies.

Furthermore, they will have access to the study material for three years and will, therefore, have three opportunities to write their ASC exams, which take place between May and July every year. The cost of the exams at a registered exam centre will be sponsored by Star Schools, a supplementary education service provider that Media Works has partnered with to bring #Matric4Madiba to life.

Star Schools will also be offering free revision sessions to help winners prepare for their English, mathematics, physical science and life science exams. The initiative was inspired by Mandela’s belief in the power of education to transform the lives of individuals, families, communities, and societies.
