Now in its third year, the awards recognise the talent, hard work and achievements of the performance writers of the Writers' Guild South Africa.

“The SABC, as a public broadcaster, recognises the need to celebrate and reward key stakeholders in the broadcasting industry. The WGSA Muse Awards allows the organisation to be associated with a platform that acknowledges writers in the industry. Through this sponsorship, our aim is to ensure that we support the celebration of South Africa's leading performance writers, invest in the development of South African performance writers while participating in the future of the local film, TV, radio, theatre and new media industries,” says Verona Duwarkah, group executive: SABC Television.

All nominees will receive a WGSA Muse Awards Nomination Certificate and winners will be awarded the specially designed WGSA Muse Trophy, along with their Winners Certificate. The WGSA MUSE Awards, launched in 2013, is the brainchild of former WGSA chairperson, Harriet Meier. “The primary objective of the WGSA MUSE Awards is to recognise the hard work done by our members in the South African film, TV and entertainment industry. It is an award by writers for writers, which shines the spotlight on the often forgotten custodians of South African arts and culture,” says Meier.
