Entries open for Energy Efficient Lighting Design Competition

The prizes are R30 000 and R40 000 respectively, with two additional special awards; one for most promising young student, the other for most promising young amateur designer, each of whom will win R10 000. Entries close on 31 August 2012.

The goal of the competition is to show that efficient lighting technologies, such as LED, can be used in contemporary and attractive luminaires and lighting design systems intended for residential lighting.

"We are honoured to be involved in such a competition," said Pierre van Helden, founder and CEO of LED Lighting SA, whose company is sponsoring the event by providing energy-efficient LED globes for competitors to use in their designs.

"There is much young talent in South Africa, which as a local producer of design-led energy-efficient products, the company is keen to nurture and promote," he concludes.
