Fighting this good cause has been innate for Doug, as he was born with a spinal defect resulting in partial paraplegia. He was given a 2% chance of survival at birth, with doctors advising that he would have no quality of life and that the future looked bleak. Thirty-four years later, this ambitious individual is regarded as a role model to able and physically challenged people.

“I would like to thank Radio 2000 and the SABC for believing in and giving me the platform through which to make a difference to disability in South Africa. It is indeed an honour and a privilege to be a voice for people living with disabilities. Winning these awards bears testament to the fact that the show is indeed making a difference,” said Anderson.
