Stadium transforms for Vodacom Unlimited Festival

On Friday 16 December 2011, the Moses Mabhida stadium will play host to more than 40 international and South African musicians and an audience of 25 000 house music fans at the Vodacom Unlimited Festival, powered by SABC1.
Stadium transforms for Vodacom Unlimited Festival

Described as a first-of-its kind installation, it has a five-story multiple tower stage, good sound and 180 degree LED screens ensuring visibility from anywhere.

According to festival producer, Glenn van Loggerenberg of Don't Look Down Productions, "The stage for the festival will be a unique installation that has never been seen before. It is unlike any other concert or festival stage in the world and has been designed specifically for the Moses Mabhida stadium."

State-of-the-art stage

The assembly of the state-of-the-art stage requires a crew of over 200 people to bring it all together on the day. It is constructed using tons of scaffolding and more than 300 LED screens that have been placed into a custom design of panels within five towers - the highest of which is five stories high. \

The LED screens will be displaying all-original animations and lighting designs. The custom sound-and-lighting design of the festival rounds off the visual elements of the production. The entire design has been planned to highlight the beautiful architecture of the stadium. It will take an entire day to load all the equipment required to assemble the stage and two days to assemble it.

"A shared goal"

"We have been working on this project since we wrapped the first festival at Orlando Stadium in April. It takes various teams working together on all the different aspects of the event and a shared goal that everyone believes in to make a massive event like this come together," says van Loggerenberg.

Amongst others, Black Coffee's AfricaRising, makes its debut on the cycloramic stage, featuring Black Coffee live with a 24-piece orchestra, conducted by Brendan Jury, along with a host of guest artists - Bucie and Zakes Bantwini amongst others - performing the tracks that have made it famous.
